Skyward Sword is the beginning of everything in the Zelda timeline, and Himekawa’s manga captures that sense of origin beautifully. This is the story of the very first Link and the very first Zelda, before Hyrule existed, before the Master Sword had a name.

Set in the floating island of Skyloft, the story follows Link and Zelda’s friendship, their separation, and Link’s descent to the dangerous surface world below. Himekawa leans into the emotional core of Skyward Sword: this is, at its heart, a love story wrapped in a creation myth.

Unlike the Legendary Editions, this is a single standalone volume, making it a quick and satisfying read.

For parents: At 192 pages, this is one of the more accessible Zelda manga: a good starting point for younger readers. The themes of friendship, sacrifice, and destiny are age-appropriate and emotionally rich. It also provides great context for the entire Zelda timeline.

For kids and teens: This is where it all starts. Before Ocarina of Time, before Breath of the Wild, there was Skyloft. If you’ve ever wondered why Link and Zelda are always connected, this manga tells that story.
