If Breath of the Wild changed what a Zelda game could be, Creating a Champion shows you how it happened. This 424-page companion goes deep into the development of one of the most acclaimed games ever made.

The book is divided into three sections: a history of the world and its characters, an extensive concept art gallery, and a behind-the-scenes look at the development process. The lore section expands on stories only hinted at in the game: the Champions’ backstories, the history of the Sheikah technology, and the events leading up to the Calamity.

For parents: If your child loved Breath of the Wild, this extends that experience into reading. The storytelling sections read like a proper fantasy novel, and the art sections encourage visual literacy.

For kids and teens: You know how BotW feels like it has a thousand hidden stories? This book tells them. Mipha’s training, Daruk’s doubts, Urbosa’s grief. It’s all here. Plus the concept art shows wild early ideas that never made it into the game.

If you enjoyed the themes of Breath of the Wild (courage, loss, and the power of friendship), you might also love Saga of the Sages: The Quest Home, a middle-grade novel inspired by the same world.
